But let us not get ahead of ourselves. In April we read that economists at the International Monetary Fund made an analysis (World Economic Outlook, Chapter four) of 113 episodes of financial stress - that is stock-market collapses, property market crashes and currency crises - over the past thirty years in industrialised countries. The result shows that recession followed in just 29 cases. In 29 other cases, there was an economic slowdown, but no contraction of the economy, and in 55 cases no significant loss of economic momentum was recorded.

So maybe it's not going to be all that bad? And even if, should we not be tackling this challenge head-on in order to capitalise on the opportunities it will bring? At Europe Unlimited, we work with entrepreneurs. They are fuelled by their ambitions, are innovative in working around problems and show an incredible amount of commitment. That is not to say that all entrepreneurs will effortlessly manage their business through 2009, but they will try very hard. And the result of this, we believe, will be many new opportunities for those with the right mindset.

In 2008 Europe Unlimited helped nearly 800 European technology entrepreneurs to build strong networks with peers, venture capitalists and multinational corporations. We worked with representatives of some 300 investors and corporations, with innovators from around 200 R&D organisations, science parks and Universities, with more than 200 professional advisors and 50 government bodies throughout Europe. Our success is our focus; we create long-term value for our clients, acting with passion, pride and perseverance.

We are already in full swing to make 2009 an even more productive year, as you can see from our calendar of upcoming activities at http://www.e-unlimited.com. Throughout 2009 we will continue to create an active community of innovators and to innovate ourselves as well. We will strive to promote even more and even better technology entrepreneurs, to represent the ideals of true venture capital and to include more corporate players and R&D - both, face-to-face and online. We will give you the opportunity to tap into our network in order to build your business despite the current economic gloom. If you feel you want to be part of our activities, we would be honoured to hear from you.

We wish you good health, prosperity and joy and we look forward to working with you in 2009!
